Lefkas (Lefkada)

About 9:30 we ride out from Parga. The way to Preveza we know - the E55. With good asphalt along the coast. As one year ago it is closed bevore L.... . The traveling round leads by him (certainly of it profiting) pretty bathing resort, on his beach a biker's pair to bathing finishes, but no solar adorers are still present.

Already before the tunnel which carries out under the sea what still costs 0.70 euros per motorcycle Lefkada is signposted. Before we reache the island, we are passing a metal records-drawbridge.

And a look in the surroundings allows to surprise that the old, venerable building stands still...

The street which connects the bridge with the town Lefkas was built in the sea.

At the end of this street is a bridge after which we turn immediately to the left, by the harbour and over the street we leave the town to come to an in the map "Road edition" red marked mountain road.

"Yes, this is badly labelled", is confirmed to us behind. We keep to the local named town "Nikitas", which is lying in the direction , where we want to drive - but just only about . It goes winding uphill and again downhill. Suddenly we stand on the sea beach - what should not be, actually, because we should already be approx. 650 meters over the sea.

We find out that we are in the Nikitas bay which bright sand beach shines in the sun and whose crystal-clear water invites to take a bath. It surprises that only a few people are standing there to enjoy the sun and water .

30 meters before us a signpost. "Sfakiotes" is standing there and "Kavalos". Thus mounted and indicator to the left. When we want to turn, we barely see street, only stones and a shy, blue sign with Greek label which we cannot decipher. (Later we find out that this street was buried with an earthquake during the last years and was not damaged and till this day has repaired.)

Then further to Agh. Nikitas where a fork offers to Kalamitsi. The narrow, winding street leads uphill - exactly that what we want . On the way a big crossroad with traffic island and signpost to Drimonas. This lies directly with the red. Even better!

Thanks to the publishing company "Road edition" which publishes this map and road map in collaboration with the military! Without them we would have been sent up !

What is not marked, however, even in this map, are six precipitous, single-track 179° curves with which a motorcycle young wild boar would hard probably act himself.

In Drimonas we still have to graduate from a very precipitous, winding legal curve - (many thanks to our GASTF [guardian angel-special task force] which provided for the fact that nothing met us on this distance or crossed our ways) - then a few more meters and we have "the red" under the tyres.

If it was to Drimonas an unusual, nerves-tickling streets and curves experience, now the pleasure-driving fun appears. Clear we must also count here on rockfall and wild animal change, however, now it goes on the asphalt diverse in itself substantially more quickly further than about the narrow hillstreet. There are two lanes and this calmly again.

In Agh. It becomes Petros again narrow. A traffic mirror and the attention of the oncoming passenger car driver prevent a collision.

In the turning after the church we see a tavern where we divide to drink an ice tea, because the gray cloud which pursues us already since some time condenses menacingly about the 1,100 meter high mountaintops .

Up to the coastal place Ponti it is turned only a small piece and once again the throttle, we also are already in Vasiliki (without it to know).

Because we think us in Ponti we drive to the harbor. There also as in Parga the workers make the promenade new.

We like to ask for the way and do this in little tavern. The motorcycles are standing infront and a policeman in his car tells us to change the place. We do it. And now after they are standing on the right place they get a seavie and we our lunche also with a nice seaview.

From Vasiliki follow the signposts to Lefkada. The rest we could drive fat but there are some very nice places to take fotografs, bevore Katochori, where we have a nice view to Vlicho-Bay. There are many sailing ships at anchor. Attentive road builders have widened there the right side stripe something, so that everybody which wants to buy no postcard can shoot his photo itself.

Only two comfortable curves, last during this day, then the street by the sea drives down - sometimes just five meters. Now countless bath possibilities, bars and shops offer. Who likes boats and ships, is right on this distance between Vlicho to Lefkada.

Before we can look, we are again in Lefkada and on the way home. About 17:30 o'clock and after 256 driven kilometers we arrive again at Parga.

Lefkas is a paradise for biker. The red streets (from "Road Edition") is good to drive. Good tourer will have Curve drunkenness and fun with the yellow streets. And also for Offroad-Fans we have seen many ways.

But without any map you should not go to Lefkas! Big built and goos signed crossings can come to little ways!
