We
try to go off early to see the old theatre. It opens at 8 a.m. and later it will
be full of tourists.
The street from Nafplio to Epidaurus lays curvy in the flat. In front of us: three
busses and two cars. Suddenly stop and go at the countryroad. Release: a big flock
of sheep, which took the whole streetside. The busses have to change to the other
driveway, all traffic is waiting till a way is found.
On
the big parkingplace at Epidaurus our cycles and Rudi get shadowy place. Tjaky
wants to visit the historical place. 6,- Euro entry - a flyer is free.
First I want to see the theater and I am happy about my boots. The stonestairs
are smooth from millions of shoes. Three steps and it is in front of me: mighty,
imposant and antique, where 14.000 people find place.
I climb up on the shady side and sit down high up in the last row. Deep down I
see the circle of the 50 m² stage, where a man goes to the point at the middle
and recites a german poem. After that another man recites in Old Greek, fitting
to the location. You understand every word! Now he goes through the circle. The
sand gnashes under his shoes. Even this little noise you hear clearly.
In
juli and august in the evening at 9 pm. there are performances in the theatre.
You get a folder on the desk.
Impressed from architektur and acoustic I go back, slippery stairs, I slip but
I can prevent a fall. Be careful!!!
This
place was a healing and cultplace. To see something in the ruins you need a very
big fantasie or a very big background knowing.

Much interesting
is the attempt to to rebuild a temple. There are partly adapted stones.

I don´t
want to see the museum and walk back to Rudi, who is changing experience with
german bikers in the meantime.
