PARGA - VIENNA (18. - 20. 6. 2003)

At our last day in Parga we have time. We don`t like to pack, stroll thrue the town and say good buy to the new and old friends: Sophoklis in his travel agency, Christos and his Terra-Bar, from Yannis in his restaurant and Vassili from Hotel Kitsos - but he is not here.

Riesen-Bio-ZitronenBut later we meet him. At fare well we get a baggagae with his wonderful big lemons - we need vitamins during we drive!
With many luck is in Deauville a little peace of place. Vour from the yellow fruits right in bag, the other in topcase.

Because we should not be hungry, we get from Daphne, boss from Parga-Camping, two peaces of home-baked, but there is no place in our bags and so we eat it immediatly.

As we drive, Deauville is hard overload at the right side... Vassilis lemons!

In Igoumenitsa we take our room in Hotel Oskar, and went throgh the town. Promenade has changed. Where were bars, now you find again restaurants and taverns, also two internet cafes opposite the old harbor for little boats. The two from the year before are also on his place, and also a new one at the top of the street.

Jetzt gibt es genug neue Rampen im Hafen von IgoumenitsaIn harbor were built new ramps. We look for a ferryboat from Anek Line, without any problems all cars drive out and in.

On the way back to Hotel Oskar we take a big bottle af water and two of Vassilis lemons with us to make refreshing lemonwater.

Next morning when we come to the harbor, our ferry boat Lefka Ori is coming. We are not in hurry, wait till the cars were driving in and now we bike also in.The instructors are again not the best. They mean our bikes are mofas and want to see it parked between collumns and rails. And if it is to wide, give down the bags.

We grumble about the silly instructors. Even if you would take off the side-bags of the Pan, she would still have the same wideness because of the integrated mirrors. Although the deck is not full, she has to be placed on the side and is bound on a truck.

Eine Beruhigung: umfallen kann sie nicht! The Deauville has to park between the wall and a rail. She reach the place without damage, but we can't open the left side-case. To come to the bike or left it, we have to climb the rail. In front of the Deauville, there is another bike, heavy packed. Impossible to pass by.

Grumbling about the primitive way of thinking of the instructors, we look for a nice place on the deck. This time, the seats are not broken. We take the decision: never again Anek Line.

By and by we becalm. Sure, the instructors have to cry over the noise on the lower deck, but the way they do is not friendly enough for a vacationist who is used friendly hosts for the last weeks. Sure they must enforce their instructions. Otherwise each one would place his car as he wants. But they don't understand that our bikes have over 300 kg, that it is not possible to push them easily forward and backwards and that they are more expensive than theyr little motor assisted bicycles.

Auf der Anek LineEgual - we don't like to ruin the trip.
The pool became filled, the guests take a sunbath and you live with grossly overpriced things at buffet and bar. Somewhere at midday time infront of Albania, the sky becomes dark. After some minutes it is dark as midnight. Athunderstorm is coming up. Around the ship vivid flash of lightning struck into the sea. Rumbling thunder is in our ears.

We put on our leather-jackets - nice to wear them in this weather - and admire the view. Most of the travellers are fled in the bars. As the storm is so strong, that the rain comes under the sunshine roof, we also leave the deck.

Two hours later, all is over. The sun is shining and we go back to our sleeping-places on deck.

At the next morning, we arrive on schedule in Triest. On our way to Greece we only had to show our passports in Slowenia. Now the Italian customs officer come on the ship and want to see our passports. After the control, we have to leave the ship and walk over the pier to the other ramp to come to our vehicles.

As Rudi leaves his parkingplace and park the Pan again, his side-stand comes into a hole in the grid of the floor. The Pan falls over. Promptly three other bikers step there and help. They try hard to put up the bike on the slippery ground, as another guy try to get free the side-stand from the hole. At this point a cordially thankyou to the helpers!
Finally, the Pan parks again, but the side-stand is bended and she stands nearly vertical.

Without further discussions and accidents we leave the ship. We enjoy the travel through Slowenia and Austria till Zöbern, where it starts a little rain. In a restaurant we take a coffee and wait how the weater develops. The rain-clothes have to stay in the bags. There are still some drops till Vienna.

Back in the big town we drive immediately to Brunos workshop. The master takes a hammer and experienced he hits the side-stand. The Pan stands good, all is OK.

Home again, Vassilis lemons are weigh and measured. 14 cm long, 33 dag heavy. (3 lemons = 1 kg.)

Tjaky mit Deauville It was a wolderful journey with many new, interesting and impressive experiences.

We were pleased that we met many bikers and travellers from Austria, Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands, who read our websites and followed our advices. Nice greetings to all of them!
With this website we've tried to describe our impressions. If you have any questions, write an email to Tjaky or Rudi. But don't criticize our English! We know, it is not the best - but we've tried to make the best of it. Rudi mit Pan
