Eretria

Look from Camping Milos to Eretria
The
town is very near and so we go by foot. The walk on the greece street looses his
frighten, the greek make a big bent. In the night it will not be so easy.
Rudi has the idea to take our signal jackets if we believe to stay longer in the
town. A good idea, she is in our head.
We reach Eretria in 10 minutes.
The road
before us looks boring: a few houses, two large parka situations and no business
- not even a kiosk (it nevertheless otherwise in Greece everywhere gives). In
the curve Rudi with little hope and a spark optimism inquires nevertheless about
an InterNet cafe. In Greek, it pulled a breaking through into with some English,
explains us the man that it would pass one on there... two roads, then right,
forwards to the ferry, then left continues and look.
Doubting we
follow the way of its description. The business get more, as more near we the
sea comes. However they do not offer tourist stuff, but goods of the daily life,
as they need native ones.
We
find the InterNet cafe at the port promenade. At the 30 PCS the youth sits and
gives themselves by 2,50 euro/hour the on-line plays. We are the only one, the
Mails call up and Spam delete. (as banal!)
The restaurant at the camping site is still closed, therefore we look ourselves
over, in which tavern most native ones are. It is opposite the ferry landing place
equal to beside the kiosk. We take those (and come back in the following days
also gladly). That sucked. "Hamburger", which has to do absolutely nothing
with the nearly Food of the same name of our widths, consists of two large grilled
"Fleischlaberln", Pommes, a Pita, something Tsatsiki and tomatos at
the price of 5,50 euro. A Gyros Pita ("filled paste mark") costs 1.50
euro. For our dinner we placing including beverages scarcely under 10, - euro.
(say still to one, Greece is expensive!)

In
the following days we learned to know the town and her mentality. The center of
her activity is the ferry boat where all 30 minutes a ferry boat is coming from
Skala Oropou and makes the way to Athen for 60 km nearer. The ferry boat does
not stay longer as the cars go down and come upd.
There are two main streets, and cross each other in the right angle . There are
many shops ad you will get there all you need for tourists and natives (also the
batterie for our spare camera), also little taverns and restaurants (some are
cheaper as on the promenade, because no sea view). It has banks, Bankomaten (its
also to use in german and english), a cheap gasoline station and a big supermarket.
You will find boutiques and shops with more tasteful Greek dekorations than elsewhere.

The
third main artery is the promenade, the bay along over there to the small island
. There are restaurants with sea view, many decoration- and Souvenirshops.
In the side lanes
are still further business and enterprises: e.g. a bookshop, a motorcycle and
an autoworkshop.
The
decoration business, which pleased us best, calls itself "Loupos and his
Dolphins". It is on the port promenade between the ferry landing place
and the roundabout. It offers gold and silver decoration with most diverse stones
partially in antique seeming style, partially in modern Design. The pallet reaches
from the small Greek glass eye up to heavily decoration in higher price situations,
occupied with noble stones. Looking by the rich offer (also over several days)
is recommended, because if your taste is met here, the decision is not easy for
you.

Weekend in Eretria
Already on Friday
the first Athener arrives in the city (and also at the camping Milos). They are
very calm and us opposite only once sceptical and reserved. From their children
we hear nearly nothing. They turn merrily with their bicycles their rounds at
the place or play at the beach. Only as the Athener notice that we do not want
to disturb by any means their calm camper idyl, but use much time to deseam our
motorcycles into the smallest attainable angle them friendlier and will greet
in passing.
Saturday evening
is the matter some. In the small town and in the restaurant at the camping site
active enterprise prevails. After dinner (with wine and Ouzo) the Greeks withdraw
themselves before their living balancing and celebrate the weekend - now somewhat
more intensively and more emotional. We do not know, when it endet. Surrounded
by music, the comment of the first football WM plays and the laughter of merry
humans we sleep in our tent.
On early Sunday
afternoon (again in all peace) the Griller is started. After the meal the first
go on, back into the large city.
Sunday
afternoon against 19 o'clock breaks down Eretria - after Greek conditions - under
the homebound wave of traffic. Back-up in the main streets, particularly on the
zufahrtsstrassen to the ferries. The high (to the stop come) traffic volume is
controlled by four "Helenic Coast Guards". The police car of the city
police parks - operationally and with two men occupies - something removes from
the happening in a calm side lane. It is much more hektic on the ferry boat as
during the week.
Later hour it becomes again completely calm in the small town and on the camping site. Only the dogs bark and the crickets chirp.
