Traffic
in Parga
There are some main streets
(red) which are to be driven by cars or big motorcycles and lie with those also
primarily the countless villas and apartment buildings in which the travelers
find her lodging .
The streets released for the traffic one-ways are after Greek relations, only
to two-lane vehicles .
The Old Town (dark green) is only to walk, also the harbour promenade. Harbour
promenade was flattened in spring 2005 and paved in laborious manual labor anew
what will certainly please the vacationers, especially that who are not so well
on foot .
If one strolls through the narrow lanes of the town lying on the hill, can barely
imagine that here more active single-track motorized traffic rules. However, the
inhabitants par proves the opposite. They go by her motorbikes up and down, carry
with it even all possible ones. It is usual to make place to a motorcycle. In
the meantime, to the motorcyclist risen count even on it !

The crossing
Left
is the OTE, on the other side a big church and a scool. It is the main crossing
in Parga. Straight away and you reach the post office.
Turn left and go up a piece the street, you comes to "green bakery".
It is not only the oldest baker's of Parga , quite exclusively and in the high
prize position, it´s a pleasure, during the rush hour (10 - 12 a.m. and
4p.m.??? ) subjoin there and to watch how in the actually single-track street
coaches in oncoming delivery vans and busses.

Kanaris Konstantinos Kanaris (1790-1877) led at night from 6. on 7th June 1822 his ships against the Turkish fleet. When he reached the Turkish flagship, he beaconed it and met the ammunition space on which the ship exploded. As a result he still destroyed the rest of the Turkish fleet and was chose to the hero . |
Parga built him this monument and named the place on which it stands after him. In addition, there is every year 15th August a big party in which the scene is adjusted . Behind the Marmor-Kanaris: culinary lusciousness, beside him the red train and the rattling motorbikes drive past, around him saunter the tourists. But all this does not interest him. He looks out at his sea as if he was always ready to jump, the Turkish fleet should appear again in the horizon . |

3 The way to creep

In view of the construction work in May 2005, which allowed to become the Kanaris curve quite difficult for motorcyclists anyhow by sand edition the special check we search another way to drive from the federal highway in the southern part of the town and to come to our villa . We find it!. You follows the street (blue marked) at the foot of the mountain Litisas of the E55 coming after the football pitch the signs to hotel Rezi and keeps always on the right, you soon lands in the Kryoneri bay and in the Ag. Athanasiou. Pay attention ! Count on oncoming traffic!

The white dog
So
or not much differently you experiences him before, between or in the diver accessories
business between the Mini-Market tutti-frutti. He, the white dog, is 11 years
old and we have never experienced that he moves faster than his fur grows. His
indifference towards him what goes forward round him is quite proverbial in Parga.
Exactly like the statue of the Kanaris is also he a benchmark in Parga .

The slip hole in the Old Town
If you go on on the right from "Rudi's restaurant", you reach the Old
Town. Actually, it is only to walk, but single-track dash there happily around.
But jump to the side if you hear approaching something motorized!
Here pulsates the life, here are the countless shops, bars and restaurants bundled
up for the traveler. It is also worthwhile to branch off here and there in the
quite small alleys - also there you discovers new over and over again (and is
it a hidden cash dispenser!) .
6 The
Ballistiker
Patatukos
Dimoulitsas dealt with Balistik. Nevertheless, his pupils pressed not the school
desk, but were on ships. From him they learned how one delivers specific shots
if the planks sway under the feet. And, therefore, he got on the harbour promenade
in Parga near the castle mountain a bust sedately. Like the old Kanaris he also
looks out to the sea.
7 The
castle ruins
Mostly
you have them in the field of vision - the ruins on top of the hill, during the
night lights up. Incredibly and indifferently, in that what happens to theirs
"to feet", she crouches on top on the rock and awaits the tourists who
come there.
Traffic
in Greece
If
you comes to Greece, you should himself right at the outset topical (!!!) procure
road map of that area on which you wants to drive.
We take"Road-Editions" Nr. 3 und 4, for 7,50 Euro a little more expensive
than other maps, but rather exactly. Road Editions is a publishing company resident
in Athens which provides the maps in collaboration with the Greek military-geographic
institute. They use shadings and height data to mark the different height steps.
It is distinguished between motorways, highways, asphalted main streets or side
streets and little side streets. Also beaches, churches, chapels, castles, fortresses,
lighthouses, archaeological sites, even vineyards in the area are marked. Camper
will also interest where there are camping sites - they are also noted (unfortunately,
not the opening times). Places are bilingual (in Greek / in English) registered,
the legend is 4-languages (gr / en / dt / it) .
The Greeks overtake single-track in low distance, but do not cut. Often they honk
to draw the attention friendly to themselves. They let themselves time by the
bending and wait mostly well, until one is over.
If you goes behind another vehicle (or than motorcycle driver in a group) you
should hold even more distance than in Austrian or German wide. Sudden brake manoeuvres
could go on the slippery streets usually fast to the eyes.

Speed limitations, double locking lines
and stop signs are pure recommendations, as long as no policeman is nearby. Nevertheless,
the announcements of radar are no gag. Also to Greece this tiresome device has
already penetrated and it is really used.
Permanent
strabismus is in the agenda - once on the roadway, her grooves, rockfall holes
and ground waves as well as the crumbling, hanging banquets - on the other hand,
on the bushes and meadows in the roadway edge where unattended nanny goats and
wild dogs appear over and over again which also cross with pleasure the roadway.
The fact that they not always make it living, you sees in many animal corpses
which rot in the sun.
There is also the land tortoise (in Epirus several of it freely living) which
we discovered in Parga one morning, it has not created on the other side of the
street, just as the pretty fox and the countless cats on the E55.
A young, before a long time in Germany living Greek with a pretty Suzuki told
to us that he needed 8 months to appear himself to the slippery roadways in Greece.
Another recommended us to stop better with beginning rain, to drink a coffee in
rest and the streets would be the most dangerous for the first rain.
ROAD BLOCKS
Beer boxes (variations or similar like palettes, red-white tapes, chairs etc.) = Greek warning signs in the traffic. Please, follow, respect it and then let it there. Also crosswise to the roadway standing vehicles can indicate a road block.
