All new makes Mai - Parga, End of Mai 2005

This chapter should not frighten or hold you up from a Parga visit. On the contrary!
Here the things should be better, to offer more comfort and to improve in appearance of the place.

The way, like this happens, lets us, over and over again surprised stop and watch. It is interesting how here various works are carried out with which difficulties the construction crews have to fight and how they solve her problems in typically Greek kind

The harbour promenade - an already historical report

If you comes from a land in which non-green areas becomes concrete, watching can be quite interesting with Greek workers. EU-promoted pavermen pave in spring 2005 the harbour promenade new. They lay stone around stone and us surprised that we never sees one which walks around with a plan on which the pattern of the gray small and white big stones is marked. Anyhow the pavermen create completely without PC and computer graphic arts.

We are surprised, how quickly they work. Nevertheless it should become finished, if in July the many, many travelers will come to Parga.

When we make our last walk on 10 June 2005, the work is nearly in final. Particularly the even, beautifully paved promenade in Parga will please humans, who are bad to foot, in addition, all, who rather steer their views on the sea, the castle and the small islands,.

Oil in Parga?

The oversize drill press reminds somehow of drillings for oil, but not the desire to find the black gold motivates the building workers to drive in the drill further and further the slope but the necessity for new drains. In Parga the road pavement remains too - which becomes work underground settled.

The construction supervisor (he comes from England) tells us that they want to bore of the road up for 120 meters. The drill press is 20 years old and was active before their employment in Greece already in Germany and Austria. It is so highly developed nevertheless that one can bore quite light curves with the rigidly working drill pipes and working the drill can pursue over portable and fixed displays installed at the drillmashine.

One evening against 11 p.m. drives suddenly an inconspicuous passenger car with yellow light against one-way, places themselves crosswise over the roadway and closes the road. An enormous excavator placed itself in the main traffic crossing in the Kryoneri bay, behind it - the reason of the road block.

On the next day the confusion is large under the car driving supplier and tourists. The exposed passenger car blocks still the road and no reference "further above" on the fact that it continues to go not here. All turned and against the one-way they go back.

Small chaos in the morning of 1. of June 2005

In the meantime the troop of the excavator driver took up his work - which is called: the excavator driver digs a pit, the others watches and watches.

The problem: The soil under the concrete cover is very damp, many small water veins pulled through. The excavator does not dig an earth, but lehmigen loam. To prevent the sides from the collapse, heavy metal plates are left and placed into the pit.

In the afternoon the hole is already rather deep. One sees the metal conduits, at which itself the dredging shovel carefully moved by and which the work supervising colleague of the excavator driver stands on a thin concrete layer, under which the soil slipped away.

The reason for the traffic-obstructing hole is the drill, which blocked itself somehow there down and now must be expenditure-dug. The repair takes place under day.

After a few days (despite hole) the road for traffic is again released. Enough place is lateral that a passenger car can drive past, the truck drivers in the meantime take a different ways.

After three weeks, briefly before our departure, the drill achieved its goal: an enormous underground concrete blister with insanity acoustics, into which the water of the small runs is derived.

A road in 2 1/2 hours

So slowly some construction work in Greece turns out, so fast and simply can also pass them. When we go in against 14 o'clock into the city, straight is locked off. We already know: A passenger car places itself crosswise. Since we saw some building vehicles already come, we ask the man, how long the road would be closed. "2 - 3 hours", he means.

We believe it not quite and adjust ourselves already mentally to it, with our for the next day planned trip the crushed stone route, which leads from our accommodation to the main street, have to use.

When we come against 16:30 o'clock to the now no longer closed road, them are up freshly and approved up to the Parga camping. And even into the hollow in the curve they poured a little tar!
