We meet them often in Greece, the travelling chais-sellers, but
we don`t get personally contact to them.
As we go back to camping ground in Methoni, we pass them. They
drive with two little busses and one camion, at the wayside their
ware is laying or they drive slow through the village and talk
with loudspeaker. We don`t need something and so we don`t brauchen
weder Sessel noch Bohrmaschinen, also note them again.
Later we sit in camping-restaurant. Two ca. 7jears old gipsygirls
come in: a little bit dirty, but not too dirty; shabby cloths,
but not torned; blowzed hair, but colored ties in it. With very
sad eyes they go from table to table and asks the guests. They
took her articles of value near to theyrself.
You can scare away them quick, if you are brisk. Egual in what
language - they understand good. If you say nothing or gives some
cent, they will not leave. One girl is following a woman to her
caravan. Soon the camperin retourned, the girl on her heels, and
charged to the master of place. He banished her from place.
After
some time she comes back with a not dirty, very attraktiv joung
wife. They buy milk and a ice in the restaurant. The companionable
publican gave it, but very cool. With sharp eyes he noticed all.
He will know why!
Long time the three vehicles are staying in the wils grass. The
gipsys are changing between sea and cars, watched from the campers.
Late in the night they leave, to another place to sell theyr goods
and to ask tourists for some cent. It seems there, as if one the
camper relieved to draw a deep breath.
